Modern Pedagogical Approaches to Empower Students With Disabilities
Abstract
This chapter examines inclusive education in higher education through the lenses of policy, accreditation, and institutional accountability. Grounded in disability studies theory, it analyzes Universal Design for Learning (UDL), equity-based pedagogy, Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and assistive technologies as systemic institutional responsibilities rather than individual accommodations. It highlights the role of quality assurance frameworks, faculty credentialing, and disability outcome metrics aligned with the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and national policies. Case studies from Finland, Canada, and India demonstrate that effective inclusion requires proactive curriculum design, institutional audits, accessible infrastructure, and professional collaboration. The chapter argues that embedding inclusion within governance and accreditation systems is essential to ensure equitable participation, dignity, and academic success for students with disabilities.
