Abstract

The journey of Cambodia becoming a research-active nation shows positive advancements in the development of institutional reforms, and scholarly visibility, the lack of insufficient development of research training, and the continuing presence of adverse research-related language, persist obstructing Cambodia's full integration. This chapter outlines the directions for the sustainable growth of Cambodia, such as the institutionalization of sustainable research capacity building, digital scholarship and open-access system, regional collaboration, and ASEAN policy integration. For Cambodia's research capacity building to be effective, there needs to be a strong national commitment and consistent funding to be made available outside of the donor funding cycles. Cambodia aspires to be an emerging knowledge hub in ASEAN, enhancing the global research ecosystem with innovative academic partnerships and good governance by the year 2030. Cambodian scholarship must position itself locally and globally; research must be a means of national pride and a development engine for the nation.
