Abstract

This chapter shares findings of a study on Reggio Emilia practices that promote inclusion of children with neuro-diverse needs, focusing on how its child-centered and play-based approach scaffold learning experiences. A qualitative case study design was employed, utilizing interviews, classroom observations and document review to gather data. Findings revealed that though Reggio Emilia strategies foster individualized learning and inclusivity, challenges such as limited professional development, resource constraints and curriculum rigidity hinder their full implementation. Opportunities for inclusion were evident through flexible learning environments and enhanced social interactions. The chapter reinforces the role of teacher training and curriculum flexibility in successful adaptation. It concludes that Reggio Emilia principles enlighten inclusive education, regardless of systemic challenges. The chapter advances policy adjustments, improved teacher training and increased resource allocation to optimize inclusive early childhood education.
