Abstract

Indian festivals are vibrant expressions of culture, tradition, and community that significantly contribute to the nation's social and economic fabric. They foster tourism, boost local economies, and strengthen cultural identity. However, these celebrations often generate environmental concerns, including air and water pollution, excessive waste, and resource depletion. This chapter examines the dual impact of festivals—celebrating their cultural and economic importance while addressing their ecological footprint. It explores sustainable solutions such as eco-friendly materials, waste management initiatives, policy guidelines, and public awareness campaigns. By integrating tradition with sustainability, the chapter emphasizes how communities can preserve cultural heritage while ensuring environmental protection, offering a roadmap for more responsible celebrations in the future.
