Abstract

As global populations age and become increasingly diverse, the need for cultural competency in gerontological nursing is paramount. This chapter explores the ethical challenges and implicit biases faced by nurses in providing care to culturally diverse older adults. Drawing upon contemporary research and case studies, it examines systemic disparities, stereotypes, and the ethical implications of culturally insensitive practices. Emphasis is placed on the integration of emotional intelligence and ethical reasoning to navigate complex care decisions, particularly in end-of-life care, hydration, nutrition, and mobility management. Strategies for enhancing cultural awareness, reducing bias, and promoting inclusive care practices are discussed. Ultimately, the chapter advocates for a holistic, emotionally intelligent, and ethically grounded approach to geriatric nursing that respects cultural diversity and upholds the dignity of older adults.
