Abstract

Precision medicine and genomics revolutionize healthcare by enabling early disease detection and personalized treatments tailored to genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors. However, disparities arise due to limited genetic testing access, underrepresentation in genomic databases, and the high costs of tailored therapies, favoring affluent populations. Ethical concerns such as genetic privacy, consent, and discrimination further complicate equitable implementation. This chapter examines these challenges and explores policy reforms, inclusive research models, and global collaborations to ensure precision medicine benefits all, rather than exacerbating disparities. Addressing systemic barriers and integrating ethical safeguards can help transition precision medicine from a driver of inequality to a tool for advancing health equity. By fostering international partnerships, increasing genomic diversity, and implementing protective policies, healthcare systems can create more equitable access to cutting-edge treatments.
