Abstract

This chapter discusses how edge computing is revolutionizing resource-constrained healthcare delivery. These environments, with limited infrastructure, human resources, budgets, and supply chains, typically struggle to provide timely and effective treatment. Edge computing offers a compelling model to address these restrictions by placing processing and data storage closer to care. This chapter discusses resource-limited healthcare, edge architecture design principles, clinical and public health applications, sustainable implementation methodologies, illustrative case studies, economic and sustainability considerations, and future directions in this rapidly evolving field. The goal is to demonstrate how well-designed and implemented edge technologies can empower healthcare providers and enhance patient outcomes in the most difficult situations.
