Abstract

Neurodegenerative diseases pose a major global health challenge, demanding advanced models and innovative therapeutic strategies. This chapter overviews in vivo, in vitro, and in silico models used to study these disorders and their role in pharmacological and therapeutic research. Such models clarify mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's disease while serving as essential platforms for drug testing, toxicity evaluation, and therapy development. A key focus is the integration of nanoparticles, whose small size, large surface area, and ability to cross the blood–brain barrier enable targeted drug delivery with fewer side effects. Functionalization with diagnostic markers further supports early biomarker detection and personalized medicine. By combining experimental models with nanotechnology, this approach improves diagnostic precision and therapeutic efficacy, offering promising prospects for more effective and less invasive treatments of neurodegenerative disorders.
