Conceptualizing Neighborhood Resources and Healthy Aging for Methodological Implication in a World of Crises
Abstract
Past literature has poorly conceptualized 'neighborhood resources' and 'healthy aging' in a world of crises. In this chapter, we broadly conceptualize the terms and suggest a framework that helps analyze how neighborhood resources (e.g., physical, material, psychosocial, and health resources) positively link to healthy aging (e.g., physical, mental, and social functioning) during natural (climate change, hazards) and social (war, COVID-19) crises. In doing so, some suggestive causal inferences, propositions, and plausible hypotheses are drawn. This framework will help guide further explorations in this field.
