Abstract

Education is not just a vehicle for youth development—it is a compass that can guide older adults toward meaningful, sustainable aging. This chapter explores how inclusive, adaptive educational practices can empower older populations to remain cognitively engaged, socially connected, and environmentally aware. Amid global crises—from pandemics to climate change—lifelong learning emerges not as a luxury but as a necessity for resilience and self-reliance. Drawing on community-based initiatives and intergenerational learning models, the chapter argues for a reframing of educational policy to center aging populations. When older adults are given the tools to learn, adapt, and lead, they become agents of sustainability in their own lives and neighborhoods. Empowerment through education, we contend, is a cornerstone of aging with dignity, purpose, and strength.
