Abstract

This chapter delves into the integration of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science methodologies in the context of disaster prediction and management, crucial domains for ensuring sustainability and resilience in contemporary societies. Beginning with an overview of the current landscape of disasters and their impacts, the chapter elucidates how AI and DS techniques can significantly enhance the prediction, early warning systems, and effective management of various types of disasters, including natural calamities like earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, and wildfires, as well as human-induced emergencies such as industrial accidents and pandemics. Through a comprehensive examination of state-of-the-art AI algorithms, machine learning models, data analytics techniques, and decision support systems, this chapter demonstrates the potential of these technologies to analyze vast amounts of heterogeneous data sources, including satellite imagery, social media feeds, sensor networks, and historical records, to extract insights for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
