Abstract

In today's interconnected global economy, trade agreements are vital instruments shaping development in agriculture, manufacturing, and services. While bilateral, regional, and multilateral agreements aim to enhance growth, their role in promoting sustainable development remains uneven and underexplored. Although trade liberalization has been widely studied, there is limited understanding of how different trade frameworks impact sustainability across sectors and countries. This study fills that gap through a comprehensive review of literature from diverse economies, examining how trade agreements influence environmental, social, and economic outcomes. The findings reveal that trade can foster technology transfer, resource efficiency, and inclusive growth, but these benefits depend on strong governance, enforcement, and the inclusion of sustainability provisions. By synthesizing global evidence, this research offers actionable insights for policymakers to craft trade policies that align economic progress with long-term sustainability.
