Abstract

Generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools have rapidly entered the operations of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), boosting productivity while presenting significant challenges in regulatory compliance. This chapter examines these challenges and identifies compliance gaps by comparing global and national regulatory frameworks from an SME perspective. It also explores case studies focused on SMEs' ethical use of AI. To address these issues, the chapter proposes an AI Ethics Framework grounded in four core pillars. It further introduces Ethics4AI, a multilingual, AI-powered platform built on a foundation of current principles, regulations, and toolkits designed to operationalize the proposed framework. Ethics4AI serves as an Ethical AI Advisor, bridging the gap between ethical principles and practical compliance, and enabling SMEs to adopt AI ethically and responsibly.
