Abstract

The integration of artificial intelligence into education systems holds transformative potential—customized learning, predictive analytics, and intelligent tutoring are reshaping how knowledge is accessed and delivered. Yet beneath this promise lie complex ethical dilemmas. From algorithmic bias that reinforces existing inequalities to opaque decision-making systems that challenge human agency, AI introduces risks that disproportionately affect already marginalized students. This chapter critically examines the ethical dimensions of AI in educational contexts, highlighting tensions between innovation and equity. Drawing on global case studies and policy analyses, it explores how AI can both hinder and help the pursuit of just and inclusive education. Ultimately, it calls for a human-centered, equity-driven framework for designing and deploying AI in education—one that resists technocentrism and embraces accountability, transparency, and ethical foresight.
