Abstract

Parent-mediated early intervention (PMEI) offers a cost-effective and sustainable approach to supporting young children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in low-resource settings. By equipping parents with practical skills and structured strategies, PMEI empowers caregivers to deliver consistent, developmentally appropriate interventions within naturalistic home environments. Drawing from evidence-based practices such as the Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) and the Preschool Autism Communication Trial (PACT), this chapter outlines a clinical model that integrates caregiver training, culturally adapted content, and community-based support systems. Emphasis is placed on early identification, parental involvement, and flexible delivery methods, including the use of mobile health tools and telecoaching. Addressing barriers such as stigma, lack of professional services, and limited infrastructure, the model demonstrates how meaningful improvements in communication, social interaction, and adaptive behavior can be achieved.
