Abstract

This chapter discusses why culturally responsive AI tutors are needed in K-12 in underserved Arab communities where learners confront infrastructural, linguistic, and cultural challenges. It points to the existence of the digital divide among refugee/rural learners, the incompatibility between the Arab values and the West-designed AI tools, and the weaknesses of Arabic NLP. Based on the recent case studies of Jordan, Lebanon, Egypt, and the Gulf regions, the chapter offers a culturally adaptive AI framework that focuses on the linguistic diversity of Arabic in AI, attention to ethics, and availability offline. The chapter is closed by providing practical policy advice to policymakers, developers, and teachers so that the AI systems in Arab education remain not only technically beneficial but also socially and culturally significant.
