Adaptive Recreational Games for Children With Physical Disabilities
Abstract
Adaptive recreation games offer children with physical disabilities access to social inclusion, fitness, and emotional well-being. The games employ specialized equipment, rule adjustments, and environmental modifications to promote accessibility and full involvement. Through adaptive recreation, children acquire motor skills, develop self-confidence, and establish peer relationships. But barriers of inaccessible facilities, prohibitive costs, and low awareness discourage participation. Addressing these challenges needs community programs, policy assistance, and technological innovation. Incorporating adaptive sports in schools and recreational activities can facilitate inclusion and promote lifelong physical activity participation. This chapter discusses the principles of adaptive recreation, caregivers' and educators' roles, and the psychosocial advantages of inclusive play. Through creating inclusive recreational spaces, society can empower physically disabled children to have active and productive lives.
