Abstract

Food waste remains a pervasive challenge that threatens global food security, economic viability, and environmental sustainability. The emergence of Industry 6.0 ushers in a new era where advanced technologies such as blockchain and artificial intelligence (AI) converge to create intelligent, transparent, and resilient supply chains. This chapter presents a comprehensive smart supply chain framework that leverages blockchain's immutable and decentralized ledger capabilities with AI's predictive analytics and automation to reduce food waste across agriculture and food distribution networks. It investigates how these technologies enable end-to-end traceability, real-time monitoring, demand forecasting, and dynamic decision-making. Practical applications, case studies, and implementation challenges are discussed alongside future prospects of integrating Industry 6.0 technologies for sustainable food supply chains.
