Abstract

Work-based models offer a dynamic bridge between academic theory and real-world application, enabling professionals to address complex challenges through experiential engagement. This chapter examines how such models harness workplace environments as living laboratories, where theory is not merely applied but adapted, tested, and refined. By drawing on established frameworks and embedding them in authentic contexts, work-based approaches foster both immediate problem-solving capacity and long-term professional growth. The discussion explores key mechanisms—such as reflective practice, collaborative inquiry, and iterative learning—that enhance the integration of conceptual knowledge into daily operations. Case examples and evaluative perspectives illustrate the tangible benefits and limitations of these models, while also identifying pathways for innovation. Ultimately, the chapter positions work-based models as essential tools for cultivating adaptable, critically minded professionals capable of navigating evolving professional landscapes.
