Abstract

This chapter highlights the role of models in advancing scientific knowledge, reviewing existing research on scientific modeling and the process of building models. It delves into the philosophical underpinnings of modeling, bridging this theoretical foundation to practical applications in supply chain management (SCM). Through presenting modeling applications in supply chain performance measurement, collaboration and coordination, and sustainability, the chapter provides a holistic view of the field's modeling landscape. By consolidating recent research, this chapter aims to equip academics and practitioners in supply chain management with the latest developments and encourage the exploration of new research avenues.
