Abstract

Many come at academic grants with rose-colored glasses. Viewing academic grants as part of a larger “marketplace” (analogically) can benefit understandings for newcomers to the space and improve the grant applications submitted for consideration. This chapter proposes an applied model based on experiences and observations in the space that span decades in higher education in multiple states in the U.S. This model includes main stakeholders in the space: grant applicants, grant funders, and third-party beneficiaries, among others. This applied model is designed to benefit grant applicant awareness and strategic and tactical decision-making in the academic grants space. The applied model is dubbed “Observational Applied Model of an Academic Grants Marketplace” (OAMAGM).
