Utilizing Business Contracts to Address the Impact of Climate Change on Agriculture in the MENA Region
Abstract
Water scarcity is one of the main concerns troubling nations, as agricultural activity, food security, and sustainable development cannot be conceived without this vital resource. In this context, seawater desalination plants have become one of the most commonly used solutions by national governments and local authorities to provide potable water and water for agricultural irrigation. Through this study, we seek to demonstrate that employing business contracts may represent an optimal means of addressing the impact of climate change on agriculture in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, using a public-private partnership (PPP) contract for a seawater desalination plant as a case study.
