Abstract

This chapter examines the impacts of climate change on Algerian agriculture. It focused on three main areas: analyzing the impacts on natural resources and production systems; the dynamics of agricultural labour; and assessing agricultural performance and growing food dependency. Main results highlight the degradation of natural resources (water, soil, vegetation), transformations in production systems (cereals, vegetable crops, livestock), and their socioeconomic consequences (rural unemployment, exodus, food dependency). The data and evidence reveal growing vulnerability to climate hazards, exacerbating food security challenges and the need for appropriate agrarian reforms.
