Abstract

This chapter explores the legal safeguards available to consumers in the UAE's agricultural sector in the face of climate change and increasing reliance on biotechnology. It analyzes the regulatory framework that governs food safety and biosafety, focusing on Federal Law No. (9) of 2020 on Biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms and its Executive Regulations issued under Cabinet Resolution No. (84) of 2022. These legal instruments are assessed alongside Federal Law No. (10) of 2015 on Food Safety to evaluate how the UAE ensures consumer protection amid environmental pressures and evolving agricultural practices. The chapter highlights the UAE's proactive approach to regulating genetically modified products through labeling, import controls, and environmental risk assessments. By examining the intersection of climate adaptation, technological innovation, and legal regulation, this chapter contributes to the understanding of how national legal systems in the MENA region can uphold consumer rights and food security in a changing climate (Alqodsi, 2021b).
