Neuropedagogical Impact of ABA Behavioral Interventions on Communication in Autism
Abstract
This article examines the effectiveness of a training program based on the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) method on improving and ameliorating the verbal communication skills of four autistic Moroccan children. This program monitors four children aged between 7 to 9 years while undergoing a teaching program of six different verbal Moroccan Arabic expressions and phrases. The results reveal significant improvement in spontaneous verbal expression production, with success rates ranging from 48% to 60%. Although post-monitoring follow-ups show persistence of the acquired skills, the participants cannot practice the last acquired skills clearly and spontaneously. These results indicate that ABA is an effective method for strengthening the verbal communication skills of autistic Moroccan children, however, repetition and regular follow-ups to retain the acquired skills is of paramount importance. This paper contributes to the literature by providing empirical information on the adaptation of ABA in a Moroccan context.
