Abstract

Neo-lecture and archives approaches to teaching history are being superseded by more individualized pedagogies as the use of artificial intelligence comes to the classroom. This chapter explores the history of teaching methodologies that artificial intelligence (AI) technologies can enhance, reviews the ethical dilemmas that come with them, and offers relevant pragmatic resources to the contemporary classroom. By employing data-analytic and intelligent tutoring systems, we are going to show how artificial intelligence (AI) can transform history education to be more critical, equitable, and inclusive. This chapter captures the promise and perils of artificial intelligence (AI) in the practice of history teaching and learning for the purpose of being a resource for practitioners and policy formulators in dealing with the phenomenon.
