Biodegradable Lipids and Surfactants
Abstract
This chapter explores the emerging role of biodegradable lipids and surfactants as innovative carriers in next-generation drug delivery systems (DDS) for cancer therapeutics. Cancer treatment faces significant challenges, including systemic toxicity, drug resistance, and poor targeting efficiency. Biodegradable lipids and surfactants offer promising solutions due to their biocompatibility, ability to enhance drug solubility, and improved targeted delivery to tumour sites. This chapter discussed the physicochemical properties of these biodegradable materials that facilitate controlled drug release and minimize adverse effects. Additionally, stimuli-responsive biodegradable surfactants that trigger drug release in the tumour microenvironment have been explored and highlighted the potential therapeutic outcomes. Through analysis of recent preclinical and clinical studies, the chapter aims to present a comprehensive overview of how biodegradable lipids and surfactants shape the future of cancer drug delivery, offering more effective, safer, and personalized patient therapies.
