Abstract

This chapter explores how crowdfunding and emerging models of finance are reshaping access to capital for women entrepreneurs, especially in contexts where traditional financial systems have not treated them equitably. From a feminist economics perspective, it diagnoses the gender finance gap and identifies how institutional gender biases in venture capital, banking, and access to credit disproportionately affect women. It examines the broader ecosystem of alternative finance and the regulatory regimes that constrain and enable their scalability. The chapter also emphasizes the role of social capital and collective narrative as underemphasized yet powerful resources for mobilizing funds. Regional examples, from Sub-Saharan Africa to Southeast Asia, illustrate how solidarity economics-based community financial innovations are constructing robust ecosystems. Finally, the discussion touches on the necessity of institutional support, inclusive policy, and long-term impact measures to make these models serve sustainable and equitable development.
