Abstract

This chapter explores the mental health challenges faced by Filipino university students and advocates creative writing as a form of mindfulness practice that fosters well-being. The authors propose the application of the various psychotherapeutic methods combined with mindful writing strategies integrated into the university curriculum. The chapter proposes the use of Filipino culture as a springboard for mindful writing, using concepts like “ginhawa” (relief), representing a holistic state of well-being. It presents a comprehensive view of writing as a coping mechanism and means of fostering resilience, advocating for a shift toward more holistic mental health strategies in academic contexts.
