Abstract

This chapter presents an initial exploratory study on the potential of music therapy to enhance mindfulness and athletic performance among players in higher education. While mindfulness-based interventions are increasingly recognized for resilience and well-being, the application of arts-based practices such as music therapy in sport contexts remains under-studied. This chapter explores the emerging role of music therapy in supporting the well-being, mindfulness, and performance of semi-professional table tennis and pickleball players (students and staff) within higher education institutions. By situating music as a complementary tool in athletic development, the chapter highlights its potential to foster holistic flourishing, integrating psychological resilience, physical coordination, and personal growth. The discussion underscores the relevance of music therapy as a supportive practice within and beyond higher education contexts, offering insight into its broader implications for athlete development and well-being.
