Abstract

With demands for higher levels of academic achievement and heightened mental health challenges, higher education institutions are encouraged to restructure learning environments that support the development of cognitive faculties and emotional states. A STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) framework is a powerful construct for moulding young minds in that respect. An interdisciplinary model can better develop emotional resilience, self-awareness, and creative expression as part of academic success. In tracing a path for student flourishing through mindfulness-based and arts-informed disciplinary senses-making, this chapter conceptualises how mindful and arts-based practices can be intentionally woven into STEAM curricula. The chapter includes pedagogical methods based on evidence that promote mental health, enhance the student experience, and encourage interdisciplinary work.
