Abstract

The chapter explores how payment technologies like UPI, mobile wallets, biometric authentication, and contactless cards are changing consumer attitudes and decision-making, spending behavior, and post-purchase feelings. It combines behavioral economics and consumer psychology as well as technology acceptance models using a mixed-methods approach that falls under the exploration of these dynamics by use of quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews of 450 respondents throughout India. The results indicate that effortless digital payments decrease the motivation to pay, which leads to impulse purchases and emotional gratification, yet sometimes leads to buyer's remorse. Perceived trust and reward systems play an important part in the area of loyalty and continued usage. The summary of the presented study concludes that digital payments not only define financial transactions but also psychological and ethical aspects of consumer behavior.
