Abstract

The e-commerce revolution has added convenience to consumers and facilitated a new selling platform for established firms. However, on the flip side, the advent of e-commerce has resulted in higher volume of transport movement as products get highly disaggregated as they move towards the end consumer. Any form of vehicular movement may result in increasing the pollution levels leading to disruptions of the fragile biosphere and the ecosystem. Manufacturers and E-commerce firms need to incorporate sustainable means of Last Mile Delivery. This calls for a long-term strategic outlook on how the green earth can be sustained, while ensuring economic benefits and growth of firms. The chapter, therefore deals with an overview of practices carried out by firms, research papers that have dwelt in depth and specific case studies from e-commerce firms across the world. Later, the chapter proposes an integrated matrix that could help organizations plan and implement sustainable supply chains that would facilitate responsible final delivery stage processes, keeping customer interests in mind.
