Abstract

Remote and hybrid work have transformed how organizations create and share knowledge, exposing challenges that traditional management cannot resolve. This chapter explores how artificial intelligence can strengthen collaboration in distributed teams while sustaining the human connection essential for learning and innovation. Drawing on systems theory and complexity leadership, it examines three dimensions of AI-enhanced knowledge work: automated capture of insights, intelligent discovery of information, and generative knowledge creation. The analysis argues that effective AI integration requires addressing social, ethical, and cultural factors alongside technical ones. The CLEAR principles—Consent, Local context, Empowerment, Accountability, and Reflective learning—offer guidance for responsible AI use that builds trust and supports organizational learning. Through systems thinking, the chapter concludes that AI should function as a partner in knowledge work, balancing automation with empathy to cultivate intelligent ecosystems grounded in ethical awareness and collective learning.
