Abstract

Anti-aging drug clinical trials make up a new and exciting segment of biomedicine, designed to increase duration of life lived in good health and alleviating age-related illnesses. Geroscience Progress in this field has recently gained momentum owing to scientific breakthroughs in the fields of biotechnology, regenerative medicine and further insight into cellular processes reducing ageing. But there are big obstacles to developing these treatments through clinical trials. Aging is a multi-dimensional, multifaceted process that makes it challenging to identify any single target or endpoint to define interventions. The latter considerations involve ethical questions, of accessibility and the externalities that changing our life span may carry with. This chapter focuses on the road marches on, and new trials are continuing to yield insights into the mechanisms of aging and approaches to lifespan extension.
