Abstract

Neurodegenerative disorders (NDs), notably Parkinson's disease (PD), Alzheimer's disease (AD), Huntington's disease (HD), Epilepsy, etc., are marked by progressive neuronal dysfunction, cognitive decline, and sensory-motor impairments. All these NDs result in clinical and biochemical changes, caused by the accumulation of misfolded proteins, such as Amyloid-β and tau in Alzheimer's disease and α-synuclein in PD. There are currently no cures for most of the NDs, and treatments are primarily symptomatic or aimed at slowing progression, highlighting the need for more research and innovation. Polyphenols and bioactive Compounds, including flavonoids like Naringenin in citrus fruit, alkaloids like Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha), terpenoids like Celastrus paniculatus (Malkangani), Azadirachta indica (Neem), Ginkgo biloba (Bal kowari), Seabuck thorn (Hippophae rhamnoides, etc., have gained significant attention for their neuroprotective potential. In addition, Polyphenols and bioactive compounds exhibit antioxidant activity, and anti-inflammatory effects.
