Abstract

Teacher retention is a major challenge in Malaysia, impacting educational quality and institutional stability. While external factors like salary and workload have been studied, internal dynamics—leadership style, social cohesion, and voluntary behaviors—are equally critical. Distributed Leadership (DL), Social Capital (SC), and Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) can together foster stronger teacher commitment. This chapter explores how DL empowers teachers, SC builds trust, and OCB promotes extra-role behaviors, all contributing to retention. Addressing these factors provides a deeper, more sustainable approach aligned with Malaysia's Education Blueprint 2013–2025, offering practical strategies to create supportive, resilient school environments.
