Abstract

Attracting quality teachers and retaining them for longer than a school year is a national issue. Teachers have been leaving the profession in droves for years, all the while telling anyone who will listen the reason why—burnout. The leading reason researchers have determined as to why teachers leave the profession is due to burnout. The authors of this chapter propose that through flexible work solutions, teacher burnout can be greatly reduced. By taking inspiration from global practices that have proven effective in schools worldwide, and by relying on careers as practitioners in elementary and secondary schools, the authors propose creative ideas grounded in research and supported by practice.
