The Translation of Pleading's Genre
Abstract
No wonder that legal translation studies have prevailed the translation and translating realms. A threshold of research has coped with various sorts and strategies of rendering legal texts from source to target languages, such as contracts, certificates, and powers of attorneys. Nonetheless, none of these studies have addressed the translation techniques of the pleading's genre. A plea represents documents needed to file any lawsuit in civil and penal courtrooms. Thus, relegating the knowledge concerned with its translation norms to a minor position forms a real dilemma. To tackle this genre and its rendering techniques, this chapter attempts to examine the linguistic and functional features of pleading for the sake of proposing the most effective strategies that help in providing significant and efficient target language pleas. It is worthy to note that because of the pleadings' conceptual sensitivity, these strategies are suggested in the light of applied linguistics knowledge and practice.
