Abstract

Congestion, pollutants, and infrastructure stress are some of the growing issues faced by the transportation industry. This chapter analyzes present uses, difficulties, and future directions to examine sustainable AI solutions as a transformational force. It highlights carbon reduction and ethical governance while examining AI's involvement in autonomous vehicles, traffic optimization, predictive maintenance, and upcoming systems like the Hyperloop through a thorough literature analysis. From 1995 to 2025, bibliometric studies show changing research patterns that emphasize multidisciplinary connections with Industry 4.0, healthcare, and climate action. Key findings highlight AI's ability to address obstacles including data quality, cybersecurity, and equity while aligning with UNSDGs for resilient, low-emission mobility. In order to promote smarter, greener transportation ecosystems, this chapter advocates for the ethical and scalable deployment of AI by filling gaps in systemic integration.
