Abstract

This chapter examines how the COVID-19 pandemic reshaped the teaching profession and its implications for educator preparation. Drawing from teacher narratives and grounded in Transformative Learning and Resilience Theory, it highlights lasting shifts in student behavior, engagement, family dynamics, technology integration, and professional expectations. These changes redefined instructional practices, increased teacher stress, and fostered innovation and adaptability. Five domains of teacher preparation, including curriculum and coursework, field experience and supervision, technology integration, professional identity and resilience, and family and community engagement, are analyzed through the lens of how programs responded to disruption, evolved to address emerging needs, and now sustain innovations. The chapter concludes that preparation must move beyond technical training to cultivate adaptive expertise, relational competence, and equity-centered practice so future educators are equipped for an uncertain and complex landscape.
