Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has heightened preexisting educational inequalities by shining a spotlight on equity gaps, making it more important than ever to infuse social justice, equity, and inclusion (SJEI) into teaching and learning. The chapter interrogates how educational institutions could counter these challenges by rethinking pedagogy, revising curricula, and making their policies more inclusive. It examines the fundamental principles of SJEI, how the pandemic disproportionately affects marginalized students, and the systemic work that must be done in order to advance belonging and justice. Notable themes include culturally responsive teaching, decolonization of knowledge, teacher empowerment, and the role of technology in enhancing access and voice. Real-world case studies and best practices in the chapter offer educators, leaders, and policy makers actionable guidance. It ends with a call to imagine education as not only a way of obtaining knowledge, but as a weapon for liberation, collective humanization and the construction of a more just future.
