Stars, Shields, and Avatars
Abstract
Gamification uses elements like stars, shields, and avatars to boost motivation, engagement, and active learning in primary education. It proved vital during the pandemic for remote learning and aligns with Sustainable Development Goals by helping reduce the educational gap. Its key benefits include fostering motivation through immediate feedback, strengthening emotional development and self-esteem via avatar personalization, and creating a safe space for introverted students to participate. It also enhances language and communication skills. To be effective and not just entertaining, gamification must be carefully planned, aligned with curriculum objectives, and supported by proper teacher training. When implemented correctly, it is a powerful tool for holistic student development.
