Abstract

Kidney diseases encompass a heterogeneous group of disorders with complex molecular underpinnings and diverse spatial manifestations within renal tissue. This chapter explores the transformative potential of spatial multi-omics technologies in unraveling the cellular and molecular architecture of kidney diseases. By integrating genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics with spatial resolution, spatial multi-omics enables high-resolution mapping of disease-associated alterations within distinct renal compartments. The chapter discusses recent advances in spatial transcriptomics, and single-cell omics that have deepened our understanding of kidney pathophysiology. Additionally, the chapter addresses the challenges in data integration, computational analysis, and clinical translation. Ultimately, spatial multi-omics holds promise for redefining kidney disease diagnostics, identifying novel biomarkers, and guiding targeted therapies through a more precise, tissue-contextual understanding of renal pathology.
