Abstract

Nanoparticle-based immunoassays and rapid diagnostic platforms are revolutionizing diagnostics by overcoming low sensitivity, long turnaround times, and dependence on centralized laboratories. Functionalized nanomaterials—gold nanoparticles, quantum dots, magnetic particles, carbon structures, and polymers—enable strong signal amplification, lower detection limits, and portable, field-ready use. Their integration into point-of-care devices, lateral flow assays, microfluidics, smartphone-based tools, and biosensors has enhanced detection of pathogens, cancer biomarkers, foodborne contaminants, and toxins with high precision. Applications extend beyond medicine to agriculture, veterinary health, food safety, and environmental monitoring. Remaining hurdles include reproducibility, scalable production, regulatory approval, and field stability. Emerging solutions such as multiplexed assays, CRISPR–nanoparticle hybrids, and AI-driven interpretation mark a paradigm shift toward accessible, precise, and sustainable global diagnostics.
