Abstract

Currently, there is an extensive demand for the application of nanotechnology in sustainable agricultural systems, nutrient delivery, pest control and addressing resistance of plant diseases. This quick implementation of nanoparticles-based agricultural products has outperformed the development of comprehensible regulatory frameworks. In this chapter the current global rules for the nanoparticles-based products used in plant health management are comprehensively reviewed. Scientific assessment as well as the harmonization efforts led by international frames such as FAO/WHO are also highlighted in this chapter. Reviewing the current guidelines reveals the absence of standardized definitions, limitation of risk assessment protocols and contradictory labelling requirements. Addressing these issues and adoption of rational harmonized evidence-based regulatory strategy will ensure environmental safety and biological systems health while fostering innovation in nano-based agricultural technologies.
