Abstract

This chapter challenges narrow definitions of student success that dominate private higher education, such as grades, completion rates, and employability figures. It argues for a more holistic, human-centred framework that recognises personal growth, socio-emotional wellbeing, resilience, identity development, and civic engagement as integral outcomes. Introducing the Student Transformation Index (STI), the chapter outlines four dimensions of developmental success and demonstrates how PEIs can redesign systems to support and measure deeper learning. Case studies from Singapore, Vietnam, and India show how institutions are adopting mentoring models, narrative assessments, and well-being tools. The chapter also examines structural barriers and proposes low-cost strategies to align institutional missions with expanded success goals.
