Human-Centred Digital Transformation
Abstract
This chapter critiques technocentric digital transformation in private higher education and proposes a human-centred alternative grounded in pedagogy, equity, and organisational empathy. Drawing on post-pandemic developments in Asia, it highlights tensions between efficiency-driven digital adoption and student wellbeing, faculty readiness, and inclusive practice. The chapter introduces the HEART Framework, Holistic planning, Empathetic design, Accessibility and ethics, Reflexivity, and Transformative culture, to guide meaningful integration of digital tools. Case studies illustrate AI-supported assessment, co-designed digital learning spaces, and inclusive online practices. It argues that digital transformation must prioritise relationships, inclusion, and educational purpose, positioning private institutions to lead humane and adaptive innovation
