Abstract

Sustainable prototyping embeds environmental, social, and economic principles across the prototyping lifecycle, targeting construction's high material, energy, and waste burdens. Conventional linear, subtractive practices overconsume resources, generate vast construction/demolition waste, and emit heavily, requiring circular strategies for sustainable development. This paper develops a framework integrating sustainable materials, eco-design, additive manufacturing, energy-efficient design, and end-of-life/waste management. Strategies include renewable/recycled low-embodied-energy materials; additive processes to cut waste; modular, durable, repairable designs for disassembly/reuse/recycling; and early LCA/digital tools for optimization. Energy efficiency and waste prevention/recycling/adaptive reuse shift construction to circularity. Adoption reduces impacts/costs, boosts sustainability/reputation, guiding greener products/environments.
