Abstract

This chapter explores how Cambodian youth are using digital platforms like Facebook, TikTok, Telegram, Instagram, YouTube, and X (Twitter) to engage civically, voice political views, and influence democratic development process. Young people utilize these tools to call for change, make issues like education, the environment, and government more visible, and promote openness. The chapter talks on issues including censorship, surveillance, and digital inequality, as well as youth-led activism, civic learning, and innovation. It does this by analyzing digital content, platform-based initiatives, and relevant policy frameworks to understand how Cambodian youth mobilize online. It promotes flexible choices such as encrypted communication and artistic expression, and it sees youth as important to Cambodia's development goals, notable Vision 2050. The chapter finishes with policy proposals for keeping online venues safe, user-friendly, and enjoyable.
